Director of Business Development – Construction MI
Job description
Location: Southfield Employment type: Direct Hire Source: PEG Staffing job board (Bullhorn job 4198) We are partnering with a growing construction organization to identify a Director of Business Development to lead expansion efforts in the Michigan market. This is a unique opportunity to build and grow a new territory from the ground up, with strong internal support and a highly lucrative, performance-driven compensation structure. This role is ideal for a motivated, entrepreneurial professional who thrives in a hunter-style environment, enjoys cold calling and networking, and has a strong understanding of construction, design-build, and preconstruction processes. This is not a general sales role. Candidates must come from a construction, design/build, general contracting, engineering, or closely related A/E/C background with experience selling construction services, managing pursuits, and developing opportunities within the commercial or industrial construction market. What You’ll Be Doing: - Develop and execute strategic business development plans targeting commercial and industrial construction opportunities - Build relationships with developers, brokers, architects, engineers, consultants, and owners - Identify, qualify, and pursue new project opportunities - Lead client outreach efforts, networking initiatives, and industry engagement - Coordinate proposal development, presentations, and preconstruction collaboration efforts - Maintain strong pipeline visibility and provide regular progress updates to leadership - Grow prospects into long-term repeat clients and strategic partnerships What We’re Looking For: - 5+ years of business development or construction sales experience REQUIRED - Direct experience within commercial construction, design/build, general contracting, or the A/E/C industry - Strong understanding of construction processes, preconstruction services, and project delivery methods - Proven track record developing and closing construction-related opportunities - Existing industry relationships within the Detroit market - Comfortable networking, cold calling, and building partnerships in the field - Strong communication, presentation, and relationship management skills Preferred Backgrounds: - General Contractors - Design/Build Firms - Construction Management Firms - Industrial or Commercial Construction - Architecture, Engineering, or Civil-related environments This Role Is NOT Targeting: - Logistics-only sales - Freight brokerage - SaaS/software sales - Staffing/recruiting sales - General B2B sales backgrounds without construction industry exposure If you have a passion for relationship-driven construction business development and understand how projects move from concept to completion, we’d love to connect.
